Men jailed for Limassol mugging

Jail

The Limassol criminal court jailed three men for eight, seven and three years on Wednesday after they were found guilty of assaulting and mugging a 66-year-old woman last June.

The woman was attacked by two individuals while coming out of her flat on June 28 on Ayias Fylaxeos Street.

The perpetrators beat the woman over the head with a crowbar and pushed her inside the flat where they bound her.

They stole jewellery, valuables and cash before fleeing the scene in an awaiting car.

The 66-year-old managed to free one arm, which she used to call her son on her mobile phone.

She was rushed to hospital in critical condition where she was admitted in the ICU and treated for a fractured skull.

Investigators managed to gather evidence against three men, 49, 47, and 46, who were arrested and later charged with the offence.

On Wednesday, the court sentenced them to eight, seven, and three years in jail respectively.
