Coronavirus: new record number of checks, 127 booked

Police carried out a record 12,842 checks for breaches of coronavirus measures in a day from Monday morning until Tuesday. Nearly 4,000 of them were conducted in Nicosia alone.

As a result of the intense police operations 127 individuals were booked.

In Nicosia, the number of checks was 3,995, in Limassol 3,660, in Larnaca 1,108, in Paphos 817, in Famagusta 2,022 and in the Morphou district 762.

43 persons were fined in Nicosia, 49 in Limassol, eight in Larnaca, six in Paphos and 19 in Famagusta.

Traffic police handed out fines to two persons and conducted 433 inspections.

Another 18 checks were carried out by the rapid response unit and 27 by marine police, with no bookings resulting from them.

The previous record number of checks was 12,246, recorded from last Thursday until Friday.
