The overdue Larnaca municipal parking with 80 parking spaces will be ready in three months, while the municipal market will be completed in the summer, the district’s mayor Andreas Vyras said.

The €7m project was initially expected to be completed in March 2020 but the works were delayed due to issues that arose concerning the construction of foundations. Works started in September 2018.

In his statements to the Cyprus News Agency Larnaca’s mayor said the parking at the new municipal market is now almost completed and will be ready by Easter, May 2.

“It is considered a very important project for Larnaca as the commercial centre of a town needs parking spaces and residents were expecting for the creation of such a parking in the town’s centre for many years,” Vyras said.

The parking includes disabled parking slots and sanitary facilities.

“So far, 80 parking spaces have been completed, however, there is a prospect for the construction of another three floors with a capacity of 100 cars,” he said.

According to Vyras, the completion of the municipal market and its restaurants is delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic as “some materials have not been received from abroad”.

Moreover, the situation does not allow for the establishment of new cafes and restaurants, added Vyras.
