Man drowns off Peyia beach

A 29-year-old man drowned in the sea off Paphos on Sunday afternoon.

The man, a Romanian national living in Paphos, went swimming near Peyia with a friend.

At around 4.30pm, his friend noticed he was floating unconscious in the water and immediately sought help.

He was rushed to Paphos general hospital where the doctor on duty tried to revive him without success.

Police have ruled out foul play.

A post mortem two be carried out later is expected to reveal the exact cause of death.
