Engomi leads Nicosia district in recycling

Engomi municipality recycled the most household waste per capita in the Nicosia district in 2020, the municipality said on Thursday citing official data from Green Dot.

Green Dot Cyprus is responsible for the recycling system operating in Cyprus, collecting PMD, paper and glass door-to-door and in strategically placed bins.

Data released on per capita recycling throughout Nicosia for 2020 showed that residents of Engomi recycled the most, around 50.95 kg per head, marking an 8 per cent increase from last year’s figures, where Engomi was also first.

Nicosia and Aglandjia municipalities followed, with 41.89 and 41.40.kg per head respectively, with Pera Choriou and Nisou in fourth place with 39.20 kg and Strovolos at fifth with 36.71.

Green Dot recycling covers most areas in Cyprus, with constant efforts to expand door-to-door services.

In total 27,319 tonnes of rubbish were recycled in all districts in 2020, with Nicosia contributing 10,632, Limassol 8,992, Larnaca 3,261, Paphos 30,13 and Famagusta 1,421.
