The revamp of Rigenis street received positive feedback from shop owners and visitors of the area, Nicosia’s Mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis said on Friday.

Following his visit to the street in the old town, Yiorkadjis said people had made positive comments about the new project and are expecting the second phase, which involves improvements to the facades of the buildings on the street.

Among the works completed was the widening of pavements, new asphalting, and the upgrading of the drainage system, and installation of an underground fiber optic network to support the smart city grid.

The mayor added that 32 flowerpots were installed along both sides of the street, and that trees as well as ornamental plants would also be placed there.

The tender for the project was announced on February 17 with a budget of €520,000 including taxes. The deadline is set for March 22, and the project will last six months.

According to the municipality, the aim of the works is to increase traffic and safety of visitors to the street.

The second phase includes the upgrading of street lighting and the cleaning of carved stone, and other investments such as marble and mosaics, the repair of concrete on balconies, repair and painting of walls, wooden frames and metal railings, and the replacement of signs.
