Man jailed for possessing child porn

Paphos criminal court on Thursday sentenced a 21-year-old man to 12 months in prison, having earlier found him guilty on the charge of possessing child pornography.

Beyond the jail sentence, the court issued an order forbidding the man from offering any services to children, working with or near children, or residing in or near an area frequented by children. He must abide by the court order for five years.

The man had been arrested after the police’s cybercrime unit got tipped off by Europol that a user on a social media platform had uploaded five video files with child abuse content.

During his arrest, police found on his person and confiscated a mobile phone. The phone was found to contain video files depicting child abuse.
