Arrest made after boys injured in hit-and-run (Updated)

A 43-year-old resident of Mouttalos in Paphos has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in which two teenage boys were injured, one seriously, on Tuesday night, police said.

He was remanded for one day by the Paphos court on Thursday.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle was located on Wednesday following a public appeal to anyone who might have witnessed the incident.

They said the suspect’s vehicle was damaged when it hit the boys and they found part of the bumper and pieces of glass from the left-hand mirror at the scene.

Based on this information, and testimony they obtained, an arrest warrant was issued. The suspect they said, was already well-known to police and had a history of involvement in drug cases.

The 14-year-old who was seriously injured and suffered several fractures and a punctured lung, and is in the Paphos hospital is said to be out of danger. The second youngster, also 14, received first aid and was discharged after the incident.

The hit-and-run occurred on the Kato Pervolia road towards Mouttalos. One of the boys had been pushing the other in a supermarket trolley at around 8pm on Tuesday night when they were struck by the vehicle which quickly sped off.
