TGIF: how to make a classic French Crème Brûlée

Here at Good Living, you may have observed that we usually like to mark the end of the working week with a TGIF recipe… A little note of indulgence with which to treat yourself over the weekend, hopefully catching your breath as you cook, bake or mix something that’s a tiny celebration.

This Friday, it’s a delectable crème brûlée recipe to add a classy twist to your weekend kitchen time.

Crème Brûlée is a classic French dessert consisting of a rich custard base, topped with a layer of hardened caramelised sugar. It is normally served slightly chilled in individual ramekins.

The heat from the caramelising process warms the top of the custard creating a crust, while leaving the centre cool. The custard base is traditionally flavoured with vanilla.

Advisory: the finishing phase of this dessert requires scorching. If you’re using the kitchen blow-torch method (other methods are suggested, too), ensure there is no flammable material lying around and that kids and pets are far, far away.
