Coronavirus: 12 business owners booked for breaking protocols

Police booked 12 business owners in 24 hours from Sunday until Monday morning for breaching coronavirus protocols.

Two of the three booked in Limassol were restaurant owners. One who served customers indoors will have to appear in court. Another who did not ensure customers kept the required distances from each other was fined €500. A third owner of a business was fined for the same offence.

In Larnaca, an establishment was serving customers after 10.45pm and was ordered to pay €500.

In Paphos, of the five premises booked three were cafés in which the distances between the guests were not observed outside. A €500 fine was imposed in each case. One, a restaurant owner, was serving customers indoors and was fined €1,000, and a betting agency which had customers sitting indoors was handed a fine of €500.

Three other restaurant owners in Famagusta were fined €500 each, for not observing distances, for working without having taken a rapid test and for accepting customers inside.

While carrying out 11,908 checks police also fined 149 other individuals. 2,258 people were checked in Nicosia, 2,961 in Limassol, 1,625 in Larnaca, 1,353 in Paphos, 1,385 in Famagusta and 1,361 in Morphou.

Traffic police contributed with 912 inspections and marine police with 51.
