The search for a sailor missing since Tuesday south of Cape Gata in Akrotiri continued on Thursday.

“The search operations to locate the sailor were stopped with the last light yesterday, without unfortunately anything related to the missing person having been located,” the Larnaca-based search and rescue coordination centre announced.

According to the announcement, the centre was told about the missing member of a cruise ship on Wednesday at 11.35am by the Limassol port authorities.

“The missing person was last seen on the night of April 20, while the ship was 20 nautical miles south of Cape Gata. The search and rescue coordination centre immediately activated the national search and rescue plan Nearchos, sending aircraft of the national guard and police to the area to carry out search operations to locate the missing person.”

Two helicopters and specialised medical personnel are taking part in the exercise.
