Animal Party calls for an end to hunting at Delikipos lake

delikipos

Hunting near the lake at Delikipos should be prohibited to protect waterbirds and allow friends of nature to enjoy the area, the Animal Party said on Friday.

The party’s central committee and candidate MPs will visit Kornos and Delikipos on Sunday to clean the lake and visit the historic bridge.

“At times there are abandoned dogs in the area, left by irresponsible people and for this reason we will distribute literature in the two communities about the relevant law and the rights and obligations of dog and car owners,” the party said in an announcement, adding that there will also be an opportunity to discuss the problems and queries of residents.

The lake is home to waterbirds such as ducks which winter there and are at risk because hunting is permitted in the area, they said.

“Therefore, the Animal Party Cyprus will ask the interior ministry (game service) to prohibit hunting in the specific area to protect not only the waterbirds but the whole area which is attractive for tourism and nature lovers more generally,” the party said.
