Coronavirus: 97 people charged for breaking protocols

A total of 97 people were charged in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning for breaking coronavirus protocols, the police said on Monday.

The charged were the result of 7,102 checks carried out around the island.

Most of the charges were for not sending an SMS (41), followed by moving around past the curfew of 9pm (26). People were also fined for not wearing a mask (20) or for having more people than permitted in a car (10).

In Nicosia, a total of 1,086 checks were carried out and six people were charged. In Limassol police carried out 1,370 checks which saw 44 people charged while in Larnaca 1,287 checks were carried out and 10 people were charged.

In Paphos, 750 checks were carried out while 19 people were charged and in Famagusta 1,013 checks were carried out with seven people being charged. In Morphou police carried out 649 checks without charging anyone.

Traffic police carried out 857 checks and charged 11 people.
