Paphos municipality has awarded a grant of €8,000 to a doctoral student of the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Cyprus, it announced on Thursday.

Maria Ktoris received the grant for a scholarship worth €8,000 for the preparation of her doctoral thesis on ‘Residential networks and relations of the region centre: the case of Paphos 1100-1699AD’.

Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos handed over €2,000 to cover the first part of the four-year scholarship.

“The mayor expressed his satisfaction with the course of the thesis and assured both Ktoris and the supervising professor, Dr Athanasios Vionis, the full support of the municipality.”

The mayor also proposed granting, on behalf of the municipality, access to the Geographical Information System-Smart City (GIS) which is up and running, in order to register the information that will emerge through the doctoral research.

“This recommendation was immediately accepted, since this valuable information will not only be preserved but will also benefit from further exploitation in the context of the promotion of the cultural heritage of Paphos.”
