A 44-year-old food delivery man is in serious condition at the Paphos general hospital after being hit by a drink driver at a pedestrian crossing, police said on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 1.30am while the man was waiting on his motorbike at a puffin crossing in Democratias avenue in Paphos.

Police said the motorcyclist was waiting for the green light to cross the road when, under circumstances that are being investigated, a 42-year-old driver hit him with his car.

The younger man, who is a British national and a permanent resident of Cyprus, tested positive in an alcohol test. He was arrested.

The 44-year-old is in serious but stable condition.
