A 43-year-old man was jailed for 12 years on Wednesday for raping a 24-year-old woman last September in Larnaca.

The proceedings at the Larnaca court were held in-camera to protect the identity of the woman, CNA reported.

The assault happened in the Mackenzie area of Larnaca in September when the woman was trying to get to a friend’s house in Oroklini some distance away, and the man offered her a lift for €14.

The woman agreed. However, when she got in the car, he locked the door and she could not get out. He then took her to a remote area, raped her and left her there.

The perpetrator had two previous convictions for sexual offences.
