Turn up the jazz

zilla project

With the re-opening of Sarah’s Jazz Club this weekend, Nicosia’s jazz venue has returned with a packed live music schedule for June.

Starting off June’s third week, the Aris Guitar Trio will perform on Monday, presenting an hour of jazz repertoire from the American songbook as well as original bebop compositions. On Wednesday 16, a Reunion Jam Session will take place at 9pm with The Charis Ioannou Trio. More live music will sound the following day as the Orestis Miaris Quartet will present The Wes Montgomery Project on Thursday. The quartet will introduce a deeper exploration of guitarist Montgomery’s amazing repertoire.

Having already presented and performed a part of the virtuoso’s most beloved songs, the group will continue with some new interesting tunes from the guitar genius. This time, Orestis Miaris, Dimitris Miaris, Costas Challoumas and Marios Spyrou will be joined by the uplifting sound of Charis Ioannou on the tenor saxophone.

One of the island’s most popular blues bands, The Zilla Project, will take the stage on Friday June 18 with their signature energetic blues sound. Frontman Big Mo will perform vocals and electric guitar while Loizos Pafitis will set down a compelling blues groove on electric bass and Stefanos PP Meletiou will command a vigorous pace on the drums.

The week will close off on Saturday 19 with Eleonora Roussou and Alexis Kasinos bringing Beats and Pieces, as their set is called, from around the world. Starting at 9pm, a rich repertoire of songs in Greek, English, Spanish and Italian, in Bossa Nova, Samba and Swing rhythms will sound at the club. These selected songs are all about the two endless sources of inspiration – love and death. More nights of connection, passion and admiration for good music will follow throughout June as Sarah’s Jazz Club returns dynamically to celebrate all things music.
