Teen driver caught in Ayia Napa after police chase

police car 11

Police on Saturday evening caught a 15-year-old boy driving a car on the Larnaca to Famagusta motorway with three other minors, aged 14 to 16, as passengers.

The teen driver was spotted just after midnight driving recklessly on the motorway, and after police signalled him to stop, he sped off. He was chased by a patrol car and drove the Ayia Napa roundabout the wrong way and continued his wrong-way driving into Rethymnou street. The 15-year-old then lost control of the vehicle that crashed into the traffic island and then into an oncoming car before being immobilised.

Police said the officers that went up to the car, realised that the driver and passengers were all minors. The 15-year-old driver tried to run but was caught by the officers.

All four were taken to the Ayia Napa police station where their parents and guardians were called in.
