Musical stroll through the streets of Paphos

Kennedy square

The Paphos Municipal Philharmonic orchestra will put on a musical walk through the town on Saturday to mark World Music Day, celebrated around the world on June 21.

“With a joyful artistic programme in the streets and squares of the traditional shopping centre on Sunday, June 20, the local authority launches its summer events and at the same time celebrates World Music Day,” Paphos municipality said.

The Philharmonic will begin it’s melodic walk at 7pm from Kennedy Square and then wander around the pedestrian street of Makarios and the area of Ibrahim’s Khan. The programme includes well-known Greek and foreign tunes to send a message of optimism and reinforce the belief that life is returning to more normal rhythms after the suffering of the pandemic, it added.

World Music Day was established in 1982 on the initiative of the then French Minister of Culture Jacques Lang and soon became a global institution now celebrated in more than 80 countries.
