Anorthosis football players were vaccinated on Thursday at the vaccination centre at Larnaca port ahead of their participation in European fixtures.

Club spokesman Demetris Christoforou told the Cyprus News Agency that the football team had taken the decision to go ahead with the vaccination of players so that they can obtain the green pass needed for travel abroad.

When asked if the vaccines will bring a better future, Christoforou said, “Medical science knows the ways in which the pandemic can come to an end.”

The most important thing is “to protect them, ourselves, and one another,” he noted.

“Experts have told us that the vaccine and possibly a future specialised drug for this virus will be the end of the road. We miss football because without spectators it is not the football as we love it,” he added.

Footballers lose the motivation to play if there is no crowd and want “to see stadiums full again. After all, this is what we built them for, to fill them,” he said.

Thursday’s vaccinated players will have the day off.

Last week, players from Apollon, Ael and Omonia players were also administered the coronavirus vaccine.
