Fourteen people were arrested during overnight police operations across Cyprus aimed at preventing crime and maintaining public order, police said on Monday.

The arrests involved various offences, including drug possession, illegal stay in the Republic, traffic violations and drunkenness.

Police stopped 746 vehicles and checked 997 people during the operations.

Officers also inspected 51 premises, resulting in 12 citations.

Traffic checks led to 357 complaints for various offences, while 20 cases were investigated and 20 vehicles were detained.

Of the complaints, 128 involved speeding.

Police also carried out 146 alcohol tests, which resulted in 11 complaints.

Five preliminary drug tests were conducted, with three returning positive results.
