The youngest patient in the Famagusta Covid ward is currently aged 20, its scientific director Amalia Hadjiyianni said on Tuesday.

“The average patient age has fallen to 49 with the youngest being just 20 years old and the oldest 81,” Hadjiyianni said.

The hospital’s Covid ward has reached 25 per cent capacity, Hadjiyianni said.

Meanwhile, the Eden rehabilitation centre in Tersefanou has 87 people in its 130 beds.

“The biggest problem continues to be the young people who have not been vaccinated… especially in people under 40,” she said.

Referring to the vaccine as a “weapon and privilege,” Hadjiyianni urged the public to get vaccinated.
