Man jailed for six years after attempted murder

The Limassol criminal court jailed a 27-year-old man for six years on Friday, after he was found guilty of attempted murder.

The defendant was arrested after a man, 20, was shot in the neck during a fight on Anexartisias Street in August 29 last year.

The fight kicked off at 5pm when the 20-year-old was assaulted by the defendant while he was chatting to a third individual.

The fight ended with the intervention of other people.

The 20-year-old left the scene but returned shortly afterwards with five other men. A fight then started between him, the 27-year-old, and a third person. At some point, the 20-year-old was shot and injured in the neck.

He was rushed to hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound and bruises to various parts of his body.

The perpetrator fled the scene firing several shots at a group of people who were chasing him.
