Police on Thursday arrested one more person, a man aged 28, in connection with the events taking place in Nicosia on July 18 during or after gatherings protesting coronavirus-related measures.

After being placed under arrest, the suspect appeared in Nicosia district court, which granted police their request that he be remanded in custody for seven days.

It was not immediately clear whether the 28-year-old was being held in connection with the gathering at the presidential palace, or the subsequent incidents at Dias, where perpetrators caused damage to the premises.

To date, authorities have made 26 arrests.

Nine of the 26 are still in custody. The rest have been released after having been charged with various offences.

In addition, police currently have one arrest warrant pending.

CID Nicosia are investigating the events of July 18.
