Two people, aged 30 and 35, were arrested on suspicion of 20 burglaries and thefts in the government-controlled areas of Famagusta, police said on Friday.

Police arrested the suspects after evidence emerged against them when a 25-year-old woman reported that €240 had been stolen from her hotel room in Paralimni on July 8.

The two were eventually arrested on Thursday, police said.

After the arrest and during an additional search, officers found in their possession items that were stolen from five Ayia Napa hotel rooms earlier that day.

The objects include jewellery, perfumes, sunglasses and €4,500 in cash.

Famagusta police said that there are 20 burglary cases investigated against them.
