A 25-year-old man was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Tuesday after being found guilty of sexually abusing a schoolgirl between June 2019 and January 2020.

The Paphos criminal court found the accused guilty of 18 charges for offences concerning the sexual abuse of a minor aged between 13 and 16 years.

He was arrested in January 2020 after the minor reported him for posting naked photos of her on social media.

The man was videoing and photographing the minor in his car and during their videocalls.

He had told the girl he was younger than his actual age and posted two screen shots from a video he had filmed of the minor on social media.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court issued a decree banning the 25-year-old from offering services to children, working in places frequented by children, or living in the same premises as children. He is also banned from living near organised places where children frequent.

The decree, that will be valid for 15 years, orders the man to inform the police of his whereabouts to make sure he is abiding by the court orders.
