The captain of a Maltese-flagged ship was sentenced to one month in prison by the Larnaca District Court on Tuesday for illegally entering the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to police, the 60-year-old captain of the Red Garnet, sailing under a Maltese flag, was arrested on Sunday morning at the EAC terminal in Vasiliko.

After checks were made, it was found the ship had sailed on October 14 and December 12 in the occupied areas to the closed port of Boyazi.

The 60-year-old Romanian was brought before Larnaca District Court on Tuesday morning.
