Larnaca Court

A 73-year-old man was sentenced to seven, five, and four years in jail by Larnaca-Famagusta Criminal Court on Thursday after he was found guilty of sexually abusing and indecently assaulting his two grandchildren, the Cyprus News Agency reported.

He was also sentenced to three years in prison for attempting to have sex with a young man under 13.

The sentences will run concurrently.

The offences were committed between January and February 2019 in the Famagusta district. The two children were aged two and 18 months at the time.

The criminal court said that in handing down the sentence it had taken into consideration the circumstances under which the offences were committed and the personal conditions of the defendant.

The trial was held behind closed doors to protect the identity of the victims.
