Three-day remand for rape suspect

A 45-year-old man has been remanded for three days by the Paphos court in connection with a complaint of rape.

According to police, on August 2, a complaint was made by a 37-year-old foreign resident of Paphos that on July 24, she went to a house in Paphos where a 45-year-old compatriot was organising a birthday party.

After the party, where they both reportedly consumed a large amount of alcohol, the 37-year-old fell asleep on the couch. According to her complaint, the suspect then allegedly had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

Following the complaint by the woman, an arrest warrant was issued and the man was arrested on Sunday.

He was remanded on Monday by the Paphos district court for three days.

According to CNA, the suspect admitted that he had sex with the woman but made other allegations as regards what happened. Police said these would be investigated.
