Farmer fracas over bean crop damage

The farmer's cows were blamed for damaging another farmer's beans

Paphos CID said on Thursday they are investigating an alleged punch-up over crop damage between two farmers, leading to one of them being injured.

According to police, a 65-year-old cattle farmer made a complaint to Kouklia police after an incident that took place in Timi, where he keeps his animals.

The alleged victim said he received a phone call from a 54-year-old farmer from Ayia Varvara asking him to meet at his field to review the damage to his bean crops, which he claimed was caused by the 65-year-old’s animals.

Their meeting is then thought to have turned violent.

However, after the altercation, the suspect drove the 65-year-old to the Paphos hospital A&E for treatment for a fractured finger and head injuries.

The man received stitches and was then kept in hospital for observation,

An arrest warrant has been issued for the 54-year-old.
