Only 26 companies in Cyprus have received the authorised economic operator licence which provides the benefits of simplifying customs and security procedures. On August 19, DP World Limassol secured the AEO licence from the Customs Department, allowing the company to apply simpler and faster customs procedures as well as ensuring the security and integrity of the cargo at all stages of the supply chain.

The AEO is an internationally recognised quality mark, introduced by the European Union in 2008, with the aim of simplifying and speeding up customs procedures and the delivery of goods. To gain the AEO licence economic operators must meet specific stringent criteria including compliance with customs requirements, high levels of security and safety standards, reliable accounting and information systems and proven financial solvency.

After four years of successful operation in Limassol port, the certification recognises DP World Limassol as a reliable and secure business partner in the regional and international supply chain, strengthening its prestige on an international basis. After a detailed and thorough review of its internal operating systems and procedures, the company secured the AEO status, which entails multiple benefits. Among other things, it enables the implementation of faster customs clearance procedures, fewer physical and document checks, as well as facilities related to customs controls, security and protection. It is worth noting that the company also benefits from the Mutual Recognition Agreements of AEO programmes, between the European Union and third countries.

“We are very proud to be among the 26 companies that have secured this top certification in Cyprus, and we are confident that this acquisition will contribute to its further strengthening, reliability, all the while we will continue improving the efficiency and transparency of our operations. This accreditation, in addition to being a guarantee of the quality of the services we provide and the procedures we follow, plays an essential role in increasing the efficiency of our operation, as it speeds up and simplifies customs clearance procedures,” said the CEO of DP World Limassol, Nawaf Abdulla.

“This is a development that creates real added value to our customers and partners, making our terminal in the port of Limassol even more competitive and attractive for operators operating in the Eastern Mediterranean region, as well as in other areas.

“He thanked the Customs Department for the certification and its cooperation throughout the evaluation period.”In addition, I would like to warmly thank the team of DP World Limassol, which has worked tirelessly for the last 12 months to ensure the certification.”
