cyprus accordion fest

Concerts, seminars and workshops are coming up in the 3rd Cyprus Accordion Festival, set to take place in Ayios Theodoros, Larnaca this September. Music lovers, accordion enthusiasts, professionals and amateurs, children and adults are all welcome to join the festival’s activities and free concerts that will take place over the weekend of September 10 to 12.

The first day of the festival will include a yoga class, an accordion seminar with George Tsiatsoulis introducing Jazz Swing, as well as an afternoon workshop on the Influence of Swing on rembetiko, folk and urban song, again by Tsiatsoulis. A voice workshop with Vasiliki Anastasiou will also take place in the afternoon before day one activities conclude with a sunset yoga session.

Day two will open with another yoga class at Maia beach before Tsiatsoulis continues with the second part of his two workshops. At 3pm on September 11 a guided tour of Ayios Theodoros village will take place before more workshops continue. Cleopatra Charalambous and Angelos Doukas will lead a children’s accordion workshop which will also include some storytelling. Then a tango class will take place at 6pm before an open workshop led by the women of the community of Ayios Theodoros happens, teaching participants how to make traditional pasta. Closing the day is another sunset yoga session with teacher Luiza.

Throughout the weekend, an accordion exhibition by Panagiotis Zafeiriou will be open for the public at the Andreas Euripides Gallery from 10am to 8pm. The final day of the festival will once again open with a yoga session at the beach after which Tsiatsoulis will present the third and final part of his two workshops. Another hour-long guided tour of the village will take place at 3pm before Doukas and Charalambous present their Interactive Music Workshop at the Pentaschinos Folklore Group at 5pm. To wrap up the festival, Zafeiriou will hold an accordion seminar titled Sounds of the Instrument and Ways to Amplify Them Through Microphone Installation at 6pm.

For those wanting to stay close by throughout the weekend, the festival has several accommodation recommendations. The less expensive option is to stay at the free camping area of the village which has toilets and shower facilities. Otherwise, festival goers can book accommodation at one of the nearby venues such as the Cyprus Glamping Park, the renovated 19th-century farmhouse To Konatzi tou Flokka or at the Kamaroporta luxury apartments. Links to the accommodation can be found on the festival’s website (www.cyprusaccordionfestival.com) along with the fully detailed programme of events during a weekend full of fun and music!
