Average daily temperature in August beat July 2020 as hottest on record

August this year was the hottest month in terms of average daily temperature since records began in Cyprus, it emerged on Friday.

According to an announcement by the press and information office, temperatures went over 40C on numerous days throughout the month, while weather stations around the island also recorded highs in other areas.

Using measurements from the Athalassa station in Nicosia, it was determined that the average daily temperature was 39.8C during the month.

July 2020 was previously deemed the hottest month with the average daily temperatures estimated, also from Athalassa, at 39.7C.
