One dead, three injured after head-on collision

A 47-year-old man died and three others were injured after a head-on collision early on Saturday in Kato Moni, police said.

Doros Fterousios from Nicosia was driving on the Arediou-Ayios Ioannis Malountas-Kato Moni road around 2am when a car driven by another man aged 61 who was travelling with a boy aged 14, collided head on with his vehicle.

After hitting the car, Fterousios slammed into a pick-up driven by a 60-year-old.

He had to be cut free from his car by firefighters and was taken by ambulance to Nicosia general where doctors confirmed his death.

The 14-year-old, the 61-year-old and 60-year-old were also taken to hospital by ambulance where the latter received first aid and was discharged. The boy, and the 61-year-old were kept in for treatment and observation.

Nicosia traffic police are investigating the cause of the accident.
