Coronavirus: Police issue fines to 25 people for health and safety violations

Police booked 24 individuals and one business during the last 24 hours, for breaching measures in place to contain the spread of Covid-19.

A police spokesperson said 3,233 checks were carried out between 6am Tuesday and  6am Wednesday.

In Nicosia, police conducted 1,044 checks and booked four people. In Limassol, they carried out 361 checks and fined eight.

Larnaca police carried out 694 checks and booked five people while officers in Paphos fined four individuals and one business manager after 126 checks.

In Famagusta, the police carried out 470 checks and booked 3 citizens, while in Morphou 189 checks were done without handing out any fines.

Traffic as well as port and marine police conducted 215 and 134 checks respectively without reporting any violations.

Breaches in coronavirus protocols include failure to wear a face mask and present a SafePass.
