Paphos police are investigating a case of unlawful detention of a minor after a mother reported her former husband travelled to Russia with their daughter and has not returned.

The woman, 47, told police that, with her agreement, her former partner, 63, left Cyprus on June 20 along with their underage daughter.

The two made a verbal agreement that he would return in a month.

However, they did not return within that time frame and, according to the woman, she called him, and he told her that he is in Russia and will not come back to the island.

Police said they issued an arrest warrant against the 63-year-old.
