Coronavirus: No new deaths, 153 people test positive on Friday (Updated)

The health ministry announced that  there were no new deaths from Covid-19 on Friday, and that 153 more people had tested positive from 64,290 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.24 per cent.

There are 89 people in hospitals of whom 36 are in serious condition. Of these, 15 are intubated.

The ministry said that the percentage of unvaccinated patients was 74.16 per cent.

The new cases concern 25 detected from contract tracing, 21 people who got PCR tests privately and 65 who got rapid tests privately.

Among the new cases were also 15 passengers found positive during testing at the Larnaca and Paphos airports, and six cases among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs.

Another 21 were detected during the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Nine of these cases were detected in high schools: one in Famagusta, two in Larnaca and six in Limassol.

The rest concern one case each detected during tests in Nicosia (4,093), Larnaca (1,202) and Paphos (510). Five cases were detected in Limassol out of 1,426 tests and four in the Famagusta district (609).

So far 118,723 cases were recorded.

The number of deaths from Covid-19 is 545: 348 men and 197 women with average age of 76.3 years.
