A 33-year-old man was arrested late on Friday after an off-duty officer saw him stealing parts from a parked car in Larnaca.

The crime occurred a few minutes before midnight, when a male off-duty officer started following a car with three passengers that was moving suspiciously in a specific road in Larnaca.

According to the officer, the car stopped in a field next to a kiosk and a woman got out of the vehicle and entered the premises.

Then, a male passenger got out and approached another vehicle that was parked in the field.

The person allegedly lifted the car with a jack and removed an object from the bottom of the vehicle.

The officer, who was watching the scene, arrested the man after calling for reinforcements.

The driver of the vehicle and the woman, who had meanwhile returned from the kiosk, fled the scene in their car, leaving the third suspect.

A catalyst converter was found in the suspect’s possession, which appears to have been taken from the other car.

Larnaca CID continue investigations for the identification of the other two people who were there.
