A six-day remand was issued by the Paphos district court on Wednesday against two men involving a case of forged ID.

The two men, aged 20 and 26, tried to travel to the Netherlands from Paphos airport on Tuesday by showing forged Spanish identity documents.

Police investigations discovered that the 26-year-old had applied for political asylum and his application is still under consideration.

The 20-year-old was a failed asylum seeker whose application was rejected on June 17 and he was notified of the decision on July 22. He failed to lodge an appeal to the review authority within the required 30-day period and is therefore in Cyprus illegally.

The investigation is ongoing.
