Events coming up this long weekend

cacao ceremony

When a holiday falls on a Friday, creating a long weekend it feels like the stars have aligned! And what better way to spend the three-day weekend and welcome October than filling it with an exciting event or two? This coming weekend events are taking place all over the island.

On Thursday an interactive workshop with live performances will take place at Tapper in Limassol. Organised by the Fabrika KollectiV, Escape the Loop is a gathering for re-connection after a long period of isolations. Through non-formal educational methodologies combined with a diversity of arts, a workshop will be held at 5.30pm focusing on expression and togetherness to “escape the urban loop”. Then at 8pm live improv/fusion performance, consisting of a blending of different music genres and styles will take place. The performance will combine the artistic elements of various individuals who met through travelling and creating art in the last few months in Spain and Cyprus.

Friday will welcome the 12th International Dance and Performance Open House Festival, dedicated to love, intimacy and acceptance. A series of dance performances will take place from Friday until Sunday in Limassol featuring various artists and choreographers. Specifically, 14 performances will be held over the weekend at the Old Vinegar Factory, Apothikes Papadaki, Polichoris Synergeio, Kokkini Klosti Kindergarten and at the DanceHouse Lemesos.

Also on throughout the weekend is a charity book sale called Buy a Book, Save a Stray at Yfantourgeio. From Friday until Sunday, P.A.W.S. (Protecting Animals Without Shelter) in cooperation with Yfantourgeio organises a book bazaar selling new and used books starting from €1, raising money for the charity to help stray animals. All of the proceeds raised will go towards the medical and other expenses of the strays. Anyone who wants to donate books can do so on the day of the event.

karaoke night

Something different is coming up on Saturday in Stroumbi as the Well-being Centre is organising a Ceremonial Cacao Fire Pit Evening. Starting at 7pm, a short cacao ceremony will take place, followed by free-flowing dancing. The rest of the evening will be relaxing around the firepit, reading tarot cards and eating healthy food and drinks.

Also on in Paphos this Saturday is a Spanish Street Food event at Sykamia Café. From 7pm onwards, the café will be serving different types of Spanish food. Think tapas, sangria and more! Just remember to reserve a table as this quaint bar is small and can only host a few customers. In Peyia, the popular village market will be on this Sunday at the Peyia Football Stadium featuring local goods and produce, from 9am to 1pm.

For a taste of something more upbeat and entertaining, BLEND.the space is organising a karaoke night on Sunday at its venue in Limassol. Starting at 7pm, guests are welcome to join, have a laugh and sing their weekend away.
