While already the recipient of numerous important distinctions, AEGEAN stood out at this year’s 2021 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
They were the first awards to have been organised by the international aviation evaluation organisation Skytrax during the pandemic, which have now become a point of reference for the industry.
AEGEAN was named the Best Regional Airline in Europe for 10 consecutive years – and the 11th time in the last twelve years – at the ceremony on September 28 in London. It was also named the third Best Regional Company in the World, whilst claiming the 10th place in Europe for its staff. It was among the top 100 companies in the world, coming in at 36. AEGEAN was also distinguished among the winners of the special category Covid-19 Airline Excellence Awards, which evaluated the application of the highest standards and best practices for protecting the health and safety of passengers and crews during the pandemic.
Commenting on the AEGEAN award, Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, stated: “AEGEAN has achieved something notable, as each and every passenger chose to vote it as the Best Regional Airline in Europe for 10 consecutive years, an achievement which has broken the record for the Skytrax World Airline Awards.”
He said that the airlines that are high in the ranking were rewarded by travelers for the high quality of service along with offering a strong and attractive travel product.
“We are looking forward to 2022 with optimism, hoping that air travel will return to normal.”
Dimitris Gerogiannis, CEO of AEGEAN, stated: “From the beginning of the pandemic, we have responded to the challenges that changed air travel and developed procedures and tools that ensure the health and safety of our passengers, while maintaining the high level of service and care we are used to offering. That is why this distinction belongs primarily to our people, who work every day and under all conditions to offer our passengers a truly unique travel experience.”
The World Airline Awards are independent awards that began in 1999 with the goal of providing a truly global customer satisfaction study. Travelers from all over the world vote in the largest customer satisfaction survey to decide the winners. They are often referred to as the “Aviation Oscars” and are a global reference point for airline excellence.
The evaluation process for the World Airline Awards 2021 was based on the evaluation of the real travel experience for a period of 23 months (September 2019 to July 2021) and reflects exclusively on the opinion of passengers themselves, in which 13.42 million entries were counted, from 100 different nationalities.
