Man arrested for assaulting and stealing from pensioner

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of assaulting a pensioner at her house and stealing jewellery from her four months ago.

Police arrested the man, a permanent resident of Larnaca, following evidence linking him to the burglary.

The crime was reported to the police by a 77-year-old woman, who said that at 11.40pm on June 16 two unknown men entered her house in Famagusta as she was sleeping.

The woman locked herself in the bedroom when she heard noises, but she told police that the two men broke down the door and attacked her.

Then, they stole several items of jewellery, including some made of gold, and fled.

Investigations into the case continue by Famagusta CID.
