Larnaca municipality unable to act on manure stench

lca munic

Larnaca municipality said on Tuesday it could do nothing about the stench of manure permeating parts of the district in recent weeks.

In an announcement, the municipality said it had received numerous complaints about the stench that was worse at night.

It said the smell was due to the movement of manure from livestock farms in the greater Larnaca area to fields outside the boundaries of the municipality.

“These fields are located outside the municipal boundaries of Larnaca and the municipality cannot take any measures,” it said.

It added that the competent state services such as the agriculture ministry and the veterinary services were informed about the problem and the nuisance it was causing.

The municipality urged the ministry to take measures so that the farmers comply with proper procedures related to such activities.
