Two drivers, 20 and 35, were caught driving under the influence of drugs over the last three days in Paphos, police said on Tuesday.

They were booked during traffic checks to prevent road accidents.

The first man tested positive to a saliva narcotest after he was found driving on Archbishop Makarios avenue in Yeroskipou.

In the second case, traffic officers stopped the car of a 35-year-old man for a check at Pindou street in Chlorakas. The man, who showed signs of drug use, also tested positive in a preliminary narcotest.

Police said he was also driving a car without insurance.

Both men gave a second sample which is expected to be examined by the state general laboratory

In a separate case, Paphos police stopped a car for a check in the area of Dasoudi following a tip-off for drug use.

During a search in the car, officers found a small quantity of cannabis.

The 30-year-old passenger of the car admitted the illegal substance was his and he had it for personal use.

Police conducted a narcotest and an alcohol test to the driver, also 30, which came back negative.
