Larnaca police arrested a 21-year-old man late on Tuesday after finding an automatic firearm in his car.

The suspect was found a few minutes before midnight in a car that was parked in a private parking space in the district.

Officers, who acted on a tip-off, carried out a search in his car where they found an automatic firearm, cartridge cases and cartridges in a plastic bag in the boot.

Police said the details of the firearm are expected to be verified by the judicial examinations.
