Limassol and China’s Weinan municipality have agreed to launch a process to become twin cities and develop relations in several sectors.

Limassol municipality said it signed this week, in an online ceremony, a letter of intent for the development of twinning relations with the Municipality of Weinan, a city in China’s east central Shaanxi province.

The letter of intent states the two cities’ intention to work to promote mutually beneficial friendship relations in the fields of tourism, education, economy, trade, and culture.

The two cities, agreed to make concerted efforts to develop these relations and will formally establish the city-twinning relationship at an appropriate time.

Limassol mayor Nicos Nicolaides stressed the importance his municipality gives to relations with cities of other countries. He said the promotion of such ties has proven to be very beneficial in mutual areas of interest, through the exchange of experience and expertise.

The ceremony was attended by the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of China in Cyprus, Li Yaohni. He expressed the joy of the embassy for the development of twinning relations with Chinese cities.

Limassol is twinned with another Chinese city, Nanjing. It is also twin cities with Rodos, Alexandria, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Heraklion, Zakynthos, Patra, Niederkassel, Marseille, and Haifa.
