A 45-year-old permanent resident of Larnaca district died in a traffic accident in Livadia in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

Franz Langer, an Austrian national, was driving on Andrea Kalvou street with a 40-year-old passenger when, under conditions that are being investigated, lost control of his car and crashed against a utility pole and a traffic sign.

Langer was transferred to Larnaca general hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The passenger suffered some minor injuries, police said.

According to police, the injured man walked to a nearby house and asked help from a resident, who notified the police around 2.45am.

Officers said that preliminary examinations showed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, whereas the passenger was.
