Drunk driver arrested in Larnaca after causing accident

A drunk motorist aged 42, driving at five times the limit with a passenger aged 22 crashed into a traffic island in the early hours of Sunday in Larnaca. Neither was injured police said.

The incident happened around 5am when the drunk driver was on Artemidos Avenue. At some point he lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

The 42-year-old underwent a preliminary breathalyser test indicating 109mg instead of the legal 22mg. A subsequent blood test found his alcohol level to be 96mg.

He was also driving with an expired licence and was arrested. He is due in court later on Sunday.
