President chairs meeting on migration

A meeting on migration at the presidential palace (PIO)

President Nicos Anastasiades was expected to lead a meeting on migration early on Wednesday to find ways to manage increased flows through the buffer zone with the north of the island.

The meeting was announced two days after Interior Minister Nicos Nouris said Cyprus was in a “state of emergency” as regards irregular migration as up to 100 migrants cross daily through points along the 180-km buffer zone from the north “all coming from Turkey”.

During the meeting at the presidential palace, the minister along with relevant bodies with submit their views and suggestions on migration management.

Nouris also said that the majority of migrants are from Sub-Saharan Africa.
