Greens urge action after moufflons mauled by dogs

The Green Party on Wednesday urged the Game Service to take action after receiving a complaint, accompanied by graphic photos, that four stray dogs had mauled three moufflons near the remote village of Kampos in the Paphos forest.

The Cyprus mouflon (Ovis gmelini ophion), a protected species.

“The photos we have received are truly appalling,” the statement said.

“Unfortunately, it appears this might not be an isolated incident and we still do not know whether any measures to protect the moufflons will be taken by the relevant departments of the government.”

The Green Party called on the Game Service and the veterinary department to step up their efforts and take the necessary precautions in order to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
